The a1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) is a heavily glycosylated protein, and its pattern of glycosylation appears to be associated, in humans, resistance or susceptibility to infectious diseases. In cats the AGP is an acute phase protein "major", and increases in particular in the course of FIP, which reaches blood levels higher than those detected in the course of other diseases, so that to have diagnostic. In several publications Paltrinieri Professor (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Milan) and his collaborators have shown how one can record increases in blood concentration dell'AGP in cats infected with FCoV but asymptomatic, and as such increases occur in correspondence cases of FIP the group in which they live healthy animals examined. However, these increases remain below the range considered suggestive of FIP.
