IMPRINTING conjunctival

Esame citologico "IMPRINTING CONGIUNTIVALE"
Premessa
La corretta esecuzione di una visita oftalmica non dovrebbe tralasciare l'esame citologico, grazie which can provide relevant diagnostic information. It is a practice survey, fast and secure, which can be easily performed and interpreted at any veterinary clinic.
The conjunctiva consists of two continuous layers of epithelial cells: the eyelid and the bulbar conjunctiva. The first consists of pseudo-stratified columnar epithelium with cells mucipare widespread. The columnar cells normally have a layer of microcilia. In the nasal part of the eye there is a physiological accumulation of lymphocytes. The bulbar conjunctiva is composed instead of a stratified squamous epithelium in continuity with the corneal epithelium. The cells of this region often have melanin pigment.

The use of cytology in ophthalmology
cytological practices commonly used in veterinary ophthalmology are scraping and conjunctival citobrushing or brushed. The
consists in scraping the surface layer of the conjunctiva via a scalpel blade. Must be made on the bulbar conjunctiva or limbal and requires a certain capacity for the operator, as it is necessary to obtain good preparations, the cells spread evenly on a slide to obtain a sort of thin layer without damaging the cells ( artifact of triconucleosi). If not properly executed, can make reading difficult or impossible, due to the presence of red blood cells. The
citobrushing involves taking conjunctival cells by brushing and subsequent preparation of material for rotation of the brush on a slide. This technique requires a certain dexterity in transferring the sample on the slide. With this method, moreover, is likely to collect deep cells, which may confuse the cytologist, leading to incorrect diagnosis. The conjunctival imprinting technique
